9 Best Cruises that Stay in Port Late and Overnight

Most cruises only stay in port for a day and as soon as the sun begins to set, they pull away from the dock and start towards their next destination. While this is fine for certain ports, there are a few select ports where it is beneficial to stay for a night or even two. These ports of call offer sizzling nightlife, special excursions, and unique experiences that make an overnight stay a highlight of the cruise.
Here are the 9 best cruises that stay in port late and overnight:

1    Azamara Club Cruises

Azamara Club Cruises visit numerous ports in the world, but most of them are in Europe. Their immersive itineraries allow travelers to enjoy a more intimate view of local life and culture. Their smaller ships allow visits to more ports, including those that can’t accommodate large cruise ships. A few of their popular overnight stays are in ports that include St. Petersburg, Venice, Barcelona, Edinburgh, and Ibiza.

2    Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises, specializing in the Caribbean, offers overnight port stays for more than forty percent of their cruises. Guests can enjoy the nightlife and attractions in ports that include Cozumel, Oranjestad, Willemstad, and Bridgetown. Looking farther afield? European ports with overnight stays include Venice and Istanbul. Celebrity also offers Cruise and Stay packages, which include luxury hotel stays, special tours and dinners, and transfers before their cruise departure.

3    SeaDream Yacht Club
Try “yachting” instead of “cruising.” SeaDream Yacht Club offers both late night departures and overnight stays when they are in some ports. For each overnight stay, guests are able to enjoy those ports for a full two days, which is wonderful at some of the more exclusive ports like Hvar, Sifnos Island, and Bonifacio.

4    Crystal Cruises

Billed as “The World’s Most Luxurious Hospitality & Lifestyle Brand Portfolio™,” an average ten-day sailing on Crystal Cruises has anywhere from one to three overnight stays in ports. This cruise line has multiple evening excursions available for their guests, including dinner with fireworks, whiskey tastings, and private after hour tours.

5    Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises expanded their overnight stays in port and late departures back in 2016 in order to meet their guests’ expectations. Overnights are possible in ports that include Cabo San Lucas and Dublin, while late departures are available in ports that include Edinburgh and Belfast.

6    Windstar Cruises

Windstar Cruises has twenty ports where they will stay overnight and most of them are in the Caribbean, Europe, and the South Pacific. Windstar is another luxury small cruise line offering a less crowded, less hectic experience. Many of their overnight stays occur when special events are happening near a port and when that happens, it is not unusual for the ship to be in port for two nights in a row. Hot new cruise offering? The Monaco Grand Prix.

7    Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Half of the cruises that Regent Seven Seas Cruises offer are overnight inclusives and most of those overnights take place in ports in Asia, the South Pacific, South America, Africa, and Europe. A few ports like St. Petersburg, Burma, and Haifa will feature multiple overnights. Regent Seven Seas takes “all-inclusive” seriously; even unlimited onshore excursions are included.

8    Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises offers overnight stays in almost half of the cruises that they offer and they are mostly found in the cruises that are at least ten days long. In some areas, Oceania stays in port for multiple nights, so that guests can maximize their time in the city. With cruises making stops everywhere from Havana, Cuba to Dubai to Papeete, Tahiti, cruise enthusiasts can visit practically anywhere in the world. Can’t decide? Oceania offers longer cruises like their circumnavigation of Australia or the Around the World in 180 Days tour.

9    Silversea Cruises

Overnight stays in port are available with Silversea Cruises and they increase the number of cruises that offer this feature every year. They currently stay overnight in almost forty ports including ones in Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and the Caribbean. A few of their most popular overnight port destinations include Barcelona, St. Petersburg, Monte Carlo, London, Bangkok, and Hong Kong.

Late night departures and overnight stays in ports are a wonderful way for people to experience everything that the port offers. Instead of being able to just visit during the daytime hours, people can experience the nightlife, the delicious dinner cuisine, and the major attractions in a different light.
Most cruise lines have expanded their excursions to include multiple activities that are only available at night. This allows cruise line guests the ability to safely do many things while in port longer and not take a chance of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Cruises are becoming popular once again because people are able to see multiple places during one vacation without the hassle of finding transportation to each destination. Hopefully, cruise lines will continue to add more overnight stays or late night departures, so that every guest can see the most in every destination that they travel to.

I used to think that the Celebrity Cruise is meant for top personnel. Well, I’m loving the features of these cruise but can’t enjoy all. I can’t wait to go for special tours and dinner with the celebrity cruise.

Some cruises would make most people want to remain at the port. Crystal Cruise – The World’s Most Luxurious Hospitality & Lifestyle Brand Portfolio is a cruise to enjoy some awesome nights at the port.

Cruises that offer overnight stays are definitely worth trying. If you’re visiting cities like St. Petersburg (the white nights!), Barcelona or Dubai, it’s a shame to only stay there for a few hours. Of course, it probably makes the cruise itself more lengthy, but if you can spare the time and take a longer vacation, then why not? Evening excursions and night time cities are a completely different experience. My cousin, who is a photographer, went on a tour across Europe. Even though they…

I didn’t even know that cruises usually pull away from the dock at night. But now that I know, I wonder why? Many ports only come to life at night! They’re missing all the fun! Which is why these cruises clearly have an advantage. While right now these might be quite out of reach for me, it’s good to know which cruises to pick when I will afford it! So far I love how the Windstar Cruises description sounds like.

I actually prefer yachting to cruising. It’s more fun for me that way. And whenever I visit the Bonifacio port, you can trust it’s a perk of fun all night with SeaDream Yacht Club, I hardly want it to end!

Many friends of mine have gone on cruises over the years and it seems that a lot of them have the same story to tell: most of the time is spent on the boat and you’re in a hurry to get back to the boat in time so they don’t leave without you! Having cruise liners take into account the fact that their passengers want to see the sights and take in the experiences of the places they’re visiting sounds absolutely delightful. I will be more likely to consider going on a cruise knowing I have the…
